Awards and Prizes

There are several Scholarships and Awards in each area of Chemistry, Earth Sciences and Physics for high achieving students.

Honours
The Rennie Scholarship Awarded annually to the student obtaining the highest mark in the Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Chemistry. Award List
The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Prize Awarded to the student obtaining the highest mark in the Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Chemistry. This award has been terminated. Award List
Level III
The G M Badger Prize Awarded annually to the student who has satisfied the requirements for a major in chemistry and has achieved the best weighted overall performance in Level III Chemistry courses. Award List
The G S Laurence Prize Awarded annually to the student obtaining the highest aggregate mark for practical work in Level III chemistry courses.

Union Carbide Australia Award

Awarded annually to the student with the best results in both Physical and Inorganic Chemistry III and Organic Chemistry III.

Rowe Scientific Chemistry Scholarship Given to a third year student in the BSc, BSc (Advanced), BSc (Molecular & Drug Design) or BSc (Nanoscience & Materials). Award List
Level II
The Royal Australian Chemical Institute Prize Awarded annually to the student enrolled in a minimum of 6 units of Level II chemistry courses who has achieved the best weighted overall performance in these courses. Award List
Gerald Laurence Prize in Practical Chemistry II Awarded annually to the student obtaining the highest aggregate mark for practical work in Level II chemistry courses. (Previously ADUCHEM Prize in Practical Chemistry Level II) Award List
First Year
Reg Sprigg Prize Awarded to the student who achieved the best overall mark in Level 1 Geology courses Earth's Interior I and Earth Systems I and proceeds to enrol in Second Year Geosciences (minimum of 6 points) in the following year. Award List
Robin Oliver & Pat James Prize Awarded to the top student in the Level 1 course Earth's Interior and who proceeds to enrol in the course Igneous and Metamorphic Geology II. Award List
Second Year
The Kingsgate Prize for Excellence in Geoscience Awarded for excellence in Level II Geoscience to the student with the highest average mark in Structural Geology II and Sedimentary Geology II. Prize value $500 Award List
Brian Daily Prize Gold

Awarded annually to the first placed student in the field mapping camp for the Level II subject Structural Geology II. Prize value $350

Brian Daily Prize Silver Awarded annually to the second placed student in the field mapping camp for the Level II subject Structural Geology II. Prize value $250 Award List
Brian Daily Prize Bronze Awarded annually to the third placed student in the field mapping camp for the Level II subject Structural Geology II. Prize value $150 Award List
Glenn Leigh Scotford Memorial Prize Awarded annually for excellence in 2nd year Geoscience courses to the student who gained the highest average mark in Igneous and Metamorphic Geology II and Geochemistry II. Prize value $500 Award List
Third Year
James Barrans Scholarship Awarded annually to the top geoscience student in Level III Geology courses proceeding to an Honours degree in Geology, Geophysics or Petroleum Geology. Award List

The Adelaide Microscopy 'Best User' Award Awarded annually by Adelaide Microscopy for the best user in Honours Geology Award List
The Tate Memorial Medal The most senior medal is the Tate Memorial Medal established in 1902 in memory of Ralph Tate (Professor of Natural Science from 1875 to 1901). The medal is awarded annually to the candidate who obtains the best results in the Honours degree of the Bachelor of Science in the field of Geology. Award List
The Zonge Prize in Geophysics Awarded for the best results in the BSc (Honours) degree in the field of Geophysics. Prize value $600 Award List
Postgraduate
Eric Rudd Memorial Scholarship Awarded annually to a higher degree geoscience student at the University of Adelaide, studying mineral or petroleum exploration and intent on making a career in the resource industry. Award List
CRC LEME Regolith Science Scholarship This Scholarship was established by the Cooperative Research Centre for Landscape Environments and Mineral Exploration to encourage further research in regolith science. The scholarship is awarded for research in Regolith Science Award List
The Aldermann Kleeman Scholarship The scholarship is to cover travel costs associated with the research project to present their work at a major international conference, spend periods of time at some of the best geoscience institutes, or visit key geological locations. Award List
The Paul Samuel Hossfeld Scholarship Awarded to support postgraduate research in quaternary geology Award List
Demonstrator of the Year Awarded annually by the Department of Earth Sciences for outstanding contribution to undergraduate teaching in Earth Sciences Award List
Postgraduates
Barker Tong Scholarship in Physics Awarded to postgraduate students, studying a PhD in physics with a preference for theoretical physics. Award List
Honours
The David Sutton Memorial Prize Awarded annually to the student in experimental physics at the examination for the Honours degree of Bachelor of Science who is placed highest in the first class. Award List
The H S Green Prize Awarded annually to the student in theoretical physics at the examination for the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science or the Honours Degree of Bachelor of Science (High Performance Computational Physics) who is placed highest in the first class. Award List
Level III
The Angas Hurst Prize Awarded annually to the student majoring in Theoretical Physics with the highest grade point average in Level III Physics courses contributing to the major. Students will be considered for the Prize in the year they satisfy the requirements for a major in Theoretical Physics. Award List
The Fred Jacka Memorial Prize Awarded annually to the student majoring in Physics with the highest grade point average in Level III laboratory-based experimental courses contributing to the major. Students will be considered for the Prize in the year they satisfy the requirements for a major in Physics. Award List
Level I
The Sir Kerr Grant Memorial Prize Awarded annually to the student with the highest overall grade in 'Astronomy I' or 'Space Science and Astrophysics I'. Award List
